I'm not sure if I should join. I did say that I had just left a small group of first time game devs on a project because I found my artistic capabilities not up to snuff.
Every time I show my progress sheet to, they always have something nice to say and it seriously gives me that boat of encouragement to carry on with my ideas.
Personally, I'm trying to improve my work ethic - it's really slow and it takes me forever to get something to look right. That's its own thing because I draw on a small DSi screen all the time, so simple stuff like brush pressure is mute and I have to use sizes, shading, and the standard brush is calligraphic, so if you flip an image from one side to another, it looks bad. In other words, I'm currently at the mercy of my budget at the moment. I've been saving up for half a year, now.
I'd really like to do something like stream as a streamer or along side someone and pick up some tips along the way. I've considered going through forums for that, but it's not entirely organic and I've had bad experiences with forums in the past, but dang do I like to talk with communities so much. So much so that one of my main goals as a developer is to keep in touch with the fan base and the possible mods surrounding it. I'd love to make something as fleshed out as Mario Maker and beyond. I feel that by doing this I could forward the gaming industry with its communication to fans. We have the Internet, dag nabbit, why don't they use it to their advantage?
I have to say though, Kirby's Superstar Ultra was one of the things that got me into spriting, but it was mostly the urge to create my own Mario levels since I got my hands on SMB 3 and SMW for the GBA from way back.
The reason why I'm so reluctant was because I only got 2 sprites done for that character last year. I went back to a more 8-bit style with less colors to focus on what really mattered and that's getting the character's anatomy right. I've actually managed t sprite out some other characters with their own unique mannerisms. However, thanks for asking, I thought about this response for 2 days now. Probably spent 3 hours just trying to compose it.
